North Coast 500

A Pure Highlands Adventure

Imagine the dream project… this was mine. Riding 500 miles around the coastline of the Scottish Highlands in five days with mates from Cycle Club Ashwell and our Calling Brands film crew. The purpose? To capture the essence of North Coast 500. It’s a loop around the whole of the north of Scotland starting in Inverness, going west to the panoramic Applecross peninsula, following the rugged coastline up to Durness, across to John O’Groats, then down the east coastline back to the start. The route was designed by the North Highlands Initiative to increase tourism for small businesses along the way that would normally miss out. A great idea that creates an epic adventure for everyone to take part.

Like most adventures, the unexpected happens. We didn’t plan to crash the drone camera into the ruined tower of Ardvreck Castle, nor get blown off our bikes climbing 15km up Bealach na Bà on Scotland’s scariest road. However, it all adds up making the North Coast 500 one of the best routes in the world. Our film captures the pure wilderness, beauty and culture unique to the Highlands, through the epic journey of three cyclists.
